In 1985, at the age of 18 Palden Yangsto Hester, a Tibetan refugee, started selling objects from her beloved homeland on the side of the road in Pokhara, Nepal. In 2004, she opened Tibetan Sisters Art, where she shares the beauty and art of the Himalayas along with her broad smile and a banner that bellows, Save Tibet. Walk into Tibetan Sisters Art to explore objects from Buddhist Tibet, Nepal and India. Browse through fierce tiger handwoven rugs, statues from Nepal and hand painted antique cabinets. Look for silver jewelry from Bali and complicated Tibetan thangka paintings with silk borders. Feel the inspiration radiating from prayer wheels, prayer flags, Buddha statues and traveling altars. Tibetan Sisters Art is one of the 320 independently owned businesses at the posh Cherry Creek North. Hester carries rare, semi-precious stones from all over the world and lovely jewelry, including handcrafted strings of natural coral, amber and turquoise, hung with etched silver pendants. The store received Westword's 2006 Best of Denver award for Best Tibetan Treasures. For items of rare beauty and significance, visit Tibetan Sisters Art.
